First thing in the morning it is grub time and then we hit the road in search of the perfect summer wave!

During the summer, the waves on the North Shore are about waist high and the water is cool and so clean you can often see straight down to the sandy bottom. Crystal clear blue waters beckon you to join them.

Your local surf instructors will meet you at one of the selected surf spots where you’ll carry surfboards, equipment and refreshments to set up for a day of surfing and water activities. We start the morning with some stretches, land surf lessons and water safety lessons prior to entering the water. Campers will learn basic surfing fundamentals, ocean safety and participate in surf relays and fitness.

You’ll spend a total of four hours surfing per day from 9 am to 2:30 pm with a lunch break and set up and break down time in between. We will surf on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We don’t surf on Wednesdays to give you a break from the hot Hawaiian sun and time to relax those muscles you never knew you had until you had to paddle against ocean currents and surf for hours on end! When not surfing, what do we do?

This camp is a learn-to-surf experience. Prior surfing is not required but the camper should be a confident swimmer. Campers will be swim tested to assess their water abilities and help us to customize their surf lessons specifically to their individual abilities. Campers use soft long boards that range in length from 7-12 feet long, depending on their weight. The more they weigh, the longer their assigned surfboard will be. These soft boards provide for great learning and experiential conditions, with minimal chance of getting hurt by the board. Our in water camper to instructor ratio is 1:3, but our camper to staff ratio is 1:2.
